We went camping at cumberland river this weekend. We arrived on Friday night, and we left at about 8pm on Saturday night. It had been drizzling all day but we hung in there. By dinner time, it was raining raining and the girls ate in the car - the only guaranteed dry place. The rain was getting heavier and we debated going home. We tossed a coin - the coin told us to stay. Dusty kept jumping in all the growing puddles - quickly decimating her small store of dry, warm clothes, we couldn't re-light the barbie - it was soaked, our mattress had got a little bit wet from the tent fly being blown into the tent and leaking a bit, then the caravan park man came around to say that the river was likely to flood if they got 2 inches of rain. Against the wishes of the coin gods, we bailed. Damage piled everything in - expect the tent. We left that for the group we were with - some of them had 1 and 2 men tents that might have gotten soggy. Skirting the fallen rocks on the way home I couldnt help but feel a bit lame for piking. My Dad would have been mortified that we got scared off by a bit of rain. (Still - he would have been mortified we were in a caravan park anyway so I could live with it - he was much more the "roughing it" kind of camper) Was still feeling a bit soft until the next day when we heard how bad it had gotten and that everyone was evacuated in the early hours. I think our group lost all the tents, a fair bit of gear and at least two cars written off with water damage. All of this of course is nothing compared to the friends and family of the poor man in lorne so our thoughts are with them. As the rain pelted down, I was wondering where else it was raining and hoping that it was coming down in other places that really needed it.
So our weekend was awash. Instead we had a fry up breaky at home, some indoor picnics, bought a watch for my birthday (it's been about 20 years since I've worn a watch), lots of inside BBQs, some lazing about and a spot of gardening (these are our first carrots - apparently I didn't dig the ground deep enough. They are typical of all small great things - a big punch in a little package - they were delicious). Watch out for tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, spring onions and strawberries.
Some of the inkblots and Nanguin came over for lunch on monday to sing me a song. Also got to have a lovely cup day yesterday with the birdcages and the runalots. You know - relaxing stuff. It was delicious. On the down side - now I am in the know about the whole "frankie" thing, I had bought one to read on the weekend. I hope the fish are enjoying reading up on pop culture.
